The Voice of the Lord
Only one time in human history did the world become so corrupt and evil that God was forced to take drastic action. "The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, 'I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them.'" (Genesis 6:5-7 NIV) Though the great flood was a horrific event, it was also an event that demonstrated God's righteousness and greatness. In Psalm 29, David marvels at the power of the "voice of the Lord" at the flood. One day soon, the voice of the Lord will again command such destructive power in response to the wickedness in the world. |
