[20:09] <CJ-Seeker> Hi Dawn

[20:09] <BobWestbrook> Jeremiah 31 is a very "pleasant" chapter, the prophet himself uses that word to describe the dream he had that is the source of what we read

[20:09] <Caelae> Really?

[20:10] <Sparrow26> Yes,. on Martha's Vineyard?

[20:10] <Caelae> oh

[20:10] <BobWestbrook> Jeremiah 31 continues the theme of the previous chapter, which we looked at last week

[20:10] <Sparrow26> I just thought maybe you might be the same person, it is an unusual name

[20:16] <GranBland> 6oh yes

[20:16] <CJ-Seeker> and pour blessings on them

[20:16] <CJ-Seeker> In Jesus Name

[20:16] <CJ-Seeker> Amen

[20:16] <BobWestbrook> Yes, hear us, Lord! Amen!

[20:16] <Sparrow26> Yes, blessings, in Jesus Name

[20:16] <RetroRyan> 1112Amen

[20:16] <MarvBMar> amen

[20:16] <GranBland> 6yes many blessings more than they can count

[20:16] <MarvBMar> yes

[20:16] <GranBland> 6thanks for changing your color Retro much better

[20:16] <GranBland> 6amen father

[20:16] <RetroRyan> 12Aqua is too bright

[20:16] <BobWestbrook> ok, let's start :)

[20:16] <GranBland> 6sure is

[20:17] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:1 NASB) "At that time," declares the LORD, "I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people."

[20:17] <GranBland> 6:->

[20:17] <BobWestbrook> Remember that the chapter headings are artificial, and sometimes are a hindrance to us; this may be one of those times

[20:17] <GranBland> 6yes

[20:18] <BobWestbrook> because, the first question that comes to mind when we read this is, what is "At that time"?

[20:18] <MarvBMar> what does yours say Bob?

[20:18] <CJ-Seeker> ok

[20:18] <GranBland> 6k

[20:18] <RetroRyan> 12606 BC ?

[20:18] <GranBland> 6mine says At the same time

[20:18] <BobWestbrook> So, I guess we back up a few steps to the last two verses of the previous chapter

[20:18] <GranBland> 6NKJ

[20:18] <MarvBMar> at the same time as restoration

[20:18] <GranBland> 6sure

[20:18] <CJ-Seeker> it was about God telling of another falling away time

[20:19] <BobWestbrook> those verses talk about the time when God's anger falls on the world, clearly a "Revelation" type scenario

[20:19] <GranBland> 6yep

[20:20] <BobWestbrook> So, I guess we can conclude that v1 is speaking of an end-times situation, when God regathers Israel not only physically but spiritually, right?

[20:20] <MarvBMar> do you mean in chapter 30?

[20:20] <BobWestbrook> the last 2 verse of 30, yes

[20:20] <GranBland> 6yep

[20:20] <GranBland> 6sure looks like it to me

[20:21] <GranBland> 6Bob I sure like it when someone puts it all in correct order

[20:21] <MarvBMar> Bob it looks like it is like 1948

[20:21] <GranBland> 6can't see how some of the breaks were made like they were

[20:21] <MarvBMar> they are back to the land but not sopiritually

[20:22] <GranBland> 6I am reading the Jerusalem books by the Thenies

[20:22] <MarvBMar> spiritually

[20:22] <BobWestbrook> And, the phrase "they will be my people" is repeated later in the chapter, when God speaks of the "new covenant" with Israel, which we will get to

[20:22] <GranBland> 6right in the 1948 battles

[20:22] <RetroRyan> 12That's true Marv, but I guess these things occur in stages

[20:22] <BobWestbrook> Great comments, folks :) I appreciate the eager participation :)

[20:23] <GranBland> 6so I do a lot of agonizing over Jerusalem

[20:23] <GranBland> 6well Bob we go right along with your thinking:->

[20:23] <MarvBMar> sorry I haven't read this chapter lately

[20:23] <GranBland> 6we eat it up so to speak

[20:23] <BobWestbrook> :) Gran

[20:24] <BobWestbrook> On to v 2 :) There is a whole lot of great stuff in this chapter!

[20:24] <GranBland> 6Bob

[20:24] <BobWestbrook> Yes?

[20:24] <GranBland> 6just returning the samile only it didn't come up

[20:24] <GranBland> 6smailie

[20:24] <Sparrow26> Yes, I see your point, because the original scrolls were one continuous text, that was artificially broken up when translated into the West ern languages.

[20:24] <BobWestbrook> oh. ok :)

[20:24] <GranBland> 6oh fooy

[20:25] <BobWestbrook> right, and sometimes those breaks are in bad spots as far as understanding

[20:25] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:2 NIV) This is what the LORD says: "The people who survive the sword will find favor in the desert; I will come to give rest to Israel."

[20:25] <GranBland> 6can't spell tonight again

[20:25] <RetroRyan> 12The chapters and verses didn't come along until sometime in the middle ages, as I recall.

[20:25] <Sparrow26> That is 1948 certainly

[20:25] <BobWestbrook> Now, remember, as we read prophecy passages like this, we often see both a near and a far term fulfillment

[20:25] <GranBland> 6yep

[20:25] <RetroRyan> 12true

[20:26] tryChrist [~tryChrist@jproxy15.talkcity.com] has joined #IsraelMyBeloved

[20:26] <Sparrow26> Greetings Miller

[20:26] <GranBland> 6we humans have a habit of repeating our mistakes

[20:26] <tryChrist> howdy all

[20:26] <BobWestbrook> In Jeremiah's case, he was speaking both of the exile to Babylon and subsequent fulfillment of those days, and also of events much much later

[20:26] <MarvBMar> He is talking about coming out of egypt

[20:26] <GranBland> 6Miller shalom

[20:26] <BobWestbrook> Hi MIller!

[20:26] <CJ-Seeker> Hi Miller

[20:26] <MarvBMar> Hi Miller

[20:26] <tryChrist> & Debbie :)

[20:26] <Caelae> Didn't Mark twain say that Israel was a desert when he visited there?

[20:26] <GranBland> 6did you get my email this week

[20:26] <RetroRyan> 12Yes he did.

[20:26] <CJ-Seeker> yes of course, Debbie too

[20:26] <BobWestbrook> Right, Caelae, a desolate waste with very few people

[20:27] <Sparrow26> True Caelae, no inhabitants

[20:27] <tryChrist> yep, thanks Gran

[20:27] <GranBland> 6oh good it was interesting

[20:27] <BobWestbrook> let's look again at v 2 with possible end-time implications:

[20:27] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:2 NIV) This is what the LORD says: "The people who survive the sword will find favor in the desert; I will come to give rest to Israel."

[20:27] <GranBland> 6you could call me if you want to come up before you leave

[20:28] Netia19 [~Netia19@jproxy12.talkcity.com] has joined #IsraelMyBeloved

[20:28] <BobWestbrook> This fits the scenario that many put forth that seems to coincide with Rev 12, that just prior to the return of the Lord Israel will be sheltered by Him in a wilderness location

[20:28] <Netia19> <:-)

[20:28] <BobWestbrook> We see many verses in the Bible that hint of this

[20:28] <GranBland> 6yep

[20:28] <BobWestbrook> Hi, Netia! Welcome

[20:28] <CJ-Seeker> Hi Karen Marie

[20:28] <GranBland> 6shalom Netia

[20:28] <RetroRyan> 12Petra

[20:28] <tryChrist> we are moving in a week, so it doesn't look like we will get to it

[20:28] <BobWestbrook> And this one especially, because He says "I will come"

[20:28] <GranBland> 6Karen Marie

[20:28] <Sparrow26> Hi Netia

[20:28] <MarvBMar> hi Netia

[20:29] <GranBland> 6oh sure

[20:29] <GranBland> 6forget

[20:29] <Sparrow26> Yes, Bob, that sounds like where most of us are living in these end days, in view of the violence, and corruption

[20:29] <GranBland> 6darn wanted to meet you

[20:30] <Whomeme> hello

[20:30] <GranBland> 6who shalom

[20:30] <Whomeme> just roaming

[20:30] <BobWestbrook> The next verse is beautiful and moving

[20:30] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV) The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

[20:30] <GranBland> 6and who is whomeme

[20:30] <RetroRyan> 12Hi Whomeme

[20:30] <Sparrow26> This is a bible study, welcome Whomeme

[20:30] <CJ-Seeker> feel free to stay..Prophecy night

[20:30] <GranBland> 6:->

[20:30] <Whomeme> well who is me

[20:31] <Whomeme> lol

[20:31] <GranBland> 6only you know

[20:31] <MarvBMar> hi who

[20:31] <Whomeme> hi

[20:31] <BobWestbrook> We can personalize this, of course, because the Lord has said to each of us "I have loved you with an everlasting love"

[20:31] <GranBland> 6who hi

[20:31] <GranBland> 6oops sorry Bob

[20:31] <Whomeme> lol

[20:31] <BobWestbrook> Choosing us to be in Him before the foundation of the world :)

[20:31] <GranBland> 6we are in Jer. 31

[20:31] <Sparrow26> Wow, He IS the God of second chances

[20:31] <BobWestbrook> Oh, I broke up the comedy routine LOL

[20:32] <GranBland> 6not just second chances

[20:32] <RetroRyan> 12That's right

[20:32] <GranBland> 6I do try to set a good example Bob

[20:32] <Whomeme> :>

[20:32] <BobWestbrook> Second, third, and in my case, about a gazillion chances :)

[20:32] <GranBland> 6but sometimes get carried away

[20:32] <BobWestbrook> :)

[20:32] <GranBland> 6have to keep the kiddies in line who

[20:32] <Whomeme> ur that old?

[20:32] <GranBland> 6tho that is not who

[20:32] <Whomeme> lol

[20:32] <BobWestbrook> Who, me? :)

[20:32] <GranBland> 6yep 71 this year

[20:32] <GranBland> 6no me

[20:33] <GranBland> 6I think I had better leave and come back in as Gran again and see if I can act like one

[20:33] <BobWestbrook> Another translation of v 3 says at the end "therefore I continue my grace to you"

[20:34] <BobWestbrook> and it is SOLELY on the basis of God's everlasting love that He continues His grace to Israel

[20:34] <BobWestbrook> As we will see, that grace being played out in the days to come, if we watch

[20:34] <GranBland> 6NKJ says threfore with loving kindness I haave drawn you

[20:34] <BobWestbrook> Drawn, yes, a very good word

[20:35] <Sparrow26> For the Believers who are ministering to Israel, this is our example, theme and message, that we should continue to minister His grace to Israel

[20:35] <Sparrow26> ty

[20:35] <GranBland> 6we need to let the Lord draw us

[20:35] <GranBland> 6even now we need that

[20:35] <BobWestbrook> Good, Sparrow

[20:35] <GranBland> 6yes

[20:36] <Sparrow26> I am getting so blessed because we are in agreemen

[20:36] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV) The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

[20:36] <GranBland> 6yes don't like arguing

[20:36] <BobWestbrook> When did the Lord appear to them in the past to express His love?

[20:36] <GranBland> 6over and over again

[20:37] <GranBland> 6especially after he had given them a licking

[20:37] <BobWestbrook> that's kind of a trick question, because there is not a single answer, you're correct, Gran

[20:37] <GranBland> 6whew

[20:37] <BobWestbrook> :)

[20:37] <tryChrist> yea Gran :)

[20:37] <GranBland> 6:->

[20:37] <BobWestbrook> many many times

[20:38] <GranBland> 6that is what i think of when i read something from those that say the church has replaced Israel

[20:38] <tryChrist> how about in what forms did He appear!

[20:38] <GranBland> 6they couldn't be more wrong

[20:38] <BobWestbrook> right

[20:38] <GranBland> 6well the angel of the Lord appeared many times

[20:38] <Sparrow26> Yes, Gran, so right!

[20:38] Whomeme [~Whomeme@jproxy14.talkcity.com] has quit IRC (Timeout)

[20:39] <GranBland> 6oh we did I only have a very small area to see names

[20:39] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:4 NASB) "Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! Again you shall take up your tambourines, And go forth to the dances of the merrymakers.

[20:39] <GranBland> 6oly after I started coming to christian websites

[20:39] <GranBland> 6did I hear what some believe

[20:40] <BobWestbrook> Another affirmation of God's continued concern and active involvement in v 4

[20:40] <GranBland> 6yukkkkkkkkkkkkk to that idea

[20:40] <BobWestbrook> "I will build you" - to Israel

[20:40] <GranBland> 6yes

[20:40] <BobWestbrook> and the result will be celebrations!

[20:40] <GranBland> 6G-d did and will continue to build them up because HE loves them so much

[20:40] <BobWestbrook> Ok, who is still here? Raise your hands? :)

[20:40] <BobWestbrook> Right, Gran

[20:41] <CJ-Seeker> 0/

[20:41] <Caelae> i am

[20:41] <Sparrow26> I have some photos of the post-1948 in Jerusalem, of dancers and celebrations, very moving!

[20:41] <GranBland> 6Isreal is the apple of G-ds eye

[20:41] <BobWestbrook> ok, good :)

[20:41] <tryChrist> 0/

[20:41] <Sparrow26> o/

[20:41] <GranBland> 6can you get them on here Sparrow??

[20:41] <BobWestbrook> yes, indeed, Sparrow! And we are only seeing the beginnings!

[20:41] <CJ-Seeker> :)/

[20:41] <Netia19> 0|

[20:42] <Caelae> what does o/ mean?

[20:42] <tryChrist> \:->/

[20:42] <CJ-Seeker> hands raised

[20:42] <GranBland> 6was just going to ask that

[20:42] <tryChrist> praise Him !!

[20:42] <Caelae> Isee

[20:42] <BobWestbrook> The next two verses are ones I included on some of my animated maps on www.trumpetsounds.com, to show specific geographical promises

[20:42] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:5-6 NIV) Again you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; the farmers will plant them and enjoy their fruit. {6} There will be a day when watchmen cry out on the hills of Ephraim, 'Come, let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.'"

[20:42] <GranBland> 6O I C

[20:42] <BobWestbrook> Samaria, and Ephraim, what the world today calls the "West Bank"

[20:43] <GranBland> 6OH

[20:43] <Netia19> thankj you for asking Caelea

[20:43] <BobWestbrook> The ultimate fulfillment of v 6 is when the Lord Himself will be reigning on Zion in Jerusalem!

[20:43] <Caelae> renaming something is the classic way of changing its position in life

[20:44] <BobWestbrook> (Micah 4:1-2 NIV) In the last days the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. {2} Many nations will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

[20:44] <Caelae> west bank from samaria

[20:44] <BobWestbrook> Good point!

[20:44] <Caelae> baby to fetus

[20:44] <Sparrow26> exactly

[20:45] <BobWestbrook> or the use of the word "settler" to describe people who are obeying the Lord by taking back the land promised

[20:45] <GranBland> 6yes

[20:45] <BobWestbrook> always with negative connotations

[20:45] <GranBland> 6and they still have not taken all that HE gave to them

[20:46] <BobWestbrook> Heard Colin Powell call it "the problem of the settlements" the other day

[20:46] <BobWestbrook> right, Gran

[20:46] <GranBland> 6oh he makes me so mad sometimes

[20:46] <BobWestbrook> me too

[20:46] <Netia19> me three

[20:47] <GranBland> 6well it does look like we are all in agreement again goodie

[20:47] <Sparrow26> And in reflection, the Body of Believers have not taken back all that the Lord has promised us either.

[20:47] <GranBland> 6Seeker are you still here you are being quiet

[20:47] <GranBland> 6oh yes thats right Dawn

[20:47] <CJ-Seeker> I am a spectator

[20:47] <GranBland> 6me too can't you tell??

[20:47] <CJ-Seeker> Hee

[20:48] <BobWestbrook> The next verse, I believe, is a directive primarily to Christians, for the responsibility the Lord has placed upon us to intercede for Israel

[20:48] <GranBland> 6being silly I know

[20:48] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:7 NIV) This is what the LORD says: "Sing with joy for Jacob; shout for the foremost of the nations. Make your praises heard, and say, 'O LORD, save your people, the remnant of Israel.'

[20:48] <Sparrow26> Amen, thank you Lord!!

[20:48] <BobWestbrook> Not only to intercede, but also to be an advocate for Israel, to come along side her

[20:48] <GranBland> 6that was BE

[20:48] <GranBland> 6z

[20:49] <GranBland> 6oops BEZ

[20:49] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:7 NRSV) For thus says the LORD: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, "Save, O LORD, your people, the remnant of Israel."

[20:49] <BobWestbrook> Raise shouts!!

[20:49] MarvBMar [~MarvBMar@jproxy15.talkcity.com] has quit IRC (MarvBMar has left the room)

[20:49] <GranBland> 6yes OH G_D

[20:49] <GranBland> 6save Isreal

[20:49] <GranBland> 6so come soon oh Jesus

[20:50] <Netia19> yes it is Bob we are taught that the Jewsish natioun is the apple of God,s eye

[20:50] <BobWestbrook> "chief of the nations" is not a term that will sit will with the rest of the world when describing Israel either - a lot of anti-semitism is just plain jealousy

[20:50] <Sparrow26> Save, O Lord, your people, the remnant of Israel, come soon!!

[20:50] <BobWestbrook> Right, Netia!

[20:50] <GranBland> 6yes'

[20:50] <BobWestbrook> Amen to that Sparrow and Gran!

[20:51] <GranBland> 6I need prayer as I contact some Jewish friends

[20:51] <BobWestbrook> But God does whatever He wants, and He has chosen Israel for His purposes!

[20:51] <GranBland> 6I send them items about Israel I get but not the christian content

[20:52] <Netia19> Yes Bob and we has his chirlden need to be in Pray

[20:52] <BobWestbrook> I just got back this weekend from a Jewish-Christian conference in Long Island

[20:52] <GranBland> 6yes thats a for sure Netia

[20:52] <BobWestbrook> it was wonderful, and quite amazing how Christians and Jews are coming together today in unprecedented ways

[20:52] <GranBland> 6oh Bob that must have been good

[20:53] <Caelae> is it a desire prompted by the HS in them that causes them to return to God?

[20:53] <BobWestbrook> Yes, Caelae, as was true in all of us :)

[20:53] <GranBland> 6I believe that is the HS that is sent by our prayers for them

[20:53] MarvBMar [~MarvBMar@jproxy15.talkcity.com] has joined #IsraelMyBeloved

[20:55] <GranBland> 6The HS won't work on anyone unless HE is invited to will HE?

[20:55] <BobWestbrook> Right, and we are truly seeing a new thing happen these days - the Scriptures foretold it, and it is beginning to emerge slowly, the spiritual reawakening of Israel

[20:55] <Netia19> Caelae what is your name or would you rather not say

[20:55] <BobWestbrook> Well, Gran, that's a good question, and the answer is, Yes, and No :)

[20:55] <GranBland> 6I was aftraid you would say that Bob

[20:55] <BobWestbrook> LOL

[20:55] MarvBMar [~MarvBMar@jproxy15.talkcity.com] has quit IRC (MarvBMar has left the room)

[20:56] <Caelae> I'm Rachel

[20:56] <Netia19> Lord are you ready for us

[20:56] <GranBland> 6perhaps in the case of Jews it would be diferent since they are G-ds children

[20:56] <BobWestbrook> Well, there have probably been enough tomes written to sink a ship to debating that from a theological viewpoint, but it's quite simply really

[20:56] <GranBland> 6OK rachel good to meet you

[20:56] <Caelae> yes and no?

[20:56] <BobWestbrook> God calls us, we respond :)

[20:57] <GranBland> 6well what about G-d does not hear the prayer of an unbleiver

[20:57] <BobWestbrook> Yes, and No - think about Paul, for example

[20:57] <GranBland> 6unbeliever

[20:57] <CJ-Seeker> Bob, I saw the pictures on your site..

[20:57] <Sparrow26> How can he be an unbeliever and pray, Gran?

[20:58] <BobWestbrook> was he seeking the Lord? Not really - but God called him. We've all heard testimonies like that

[20:58] <BobWestbrook> Where God reaches out and grabs someone FOR HIS PURPOSES

[20:58] <MarvBMar> am I in

[20:58] <Sparrow26> I think he must have some faith. I think it rather presumptous to say what God may or may not hear.

[20:58] <BobWestbrook> you are in

[20:58] <GranBland> 6he was fervent for the God of Israel who he thought hated Jesus

[20:58] <GranBland> 6was confused

[20:58] <GranBland> 6yes Marian

[20:59] <BobWestbrook> Yes, Seeker?

[20:59] <CJ-Seeker> WB Marion

[20:59] <MarvBMar> Praise the Lord & the enemy is defeated

[20:59] <GranBland> 6I thought that also Dawn but thats what I was told the scriptures says

[20:59] <CJ-Seeker> I did not know who the faces belonged to

[20:59] <MarvBMar> who are you talking about

[20:59] <GranBland> 6Paul

[20:59] <BobWestbrook> I should put captions on them, huh

[21:00] <GranBland> 6who was Saul

[21:00] <CJ-Seeker> It would help me that is for sure Bob

[21:00] <GranBland> 6Jeus changed his name

[21:00] <Sparrow26> Gran, do you know where?

[21:00] <GranBland> 6no sure don't

[21:00] <GranBland> 6ask Bob

[21:00] <GranBland> 6he knows everything

[21:00] <GranBland> 6:->

[21:00] <Netia19> Paul before

[21:00] <tryChrist> acts

[21:00] <BobWestbrook> In my own life, let me tell you, God came back for me when I had wandered far away

[21:00] <Caelae> where Jesus changed pauls name?

[21:01] <Netia19> no

[21:01] <BobWestbrook> and He reached out and grabbed me and pulled me back

[21:01] <GranBland> 6on the Demasscuss road

[21:01] <Sparrow26> Seeker, what faces?

[21:01] <GranBland> 6phonic spelling there sorry

[21:01] <Netia19> yes

[21:01] <Sparrow26> OH

[21:01] <BobWestbrook> Faces on the pictures from the conference last weekend

[21:01] <BobWestbrook> OK, back to Jeremiah :)

[21:01] <MarvBMar> how was it Bob

[21:02] <GranBland> 6oh yes

[21:02] <Caelae> good

[21:02] <BobWestbrook> Terrific!

[21:02] <GranBland> 6but you didn't ask Bob yet

[21:02] <BobWestbrook> The next two verses are about aliyah

[21:02] <GranBland> 6oh it was in Acts somewhere

[21:02] <MarvBMar> ask him what

[21:02] <BobWestbrook> Did someone have a question?

[21:02] <Caelae> aliyah?

[21:02] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:8 NIV) See, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind and the lame, expectant mothers and women in labor; a great throng will return.

[21:02] <GranBland> 6yes when Sauls name was changed to Paul

[21:03] <GranBland> 6Nitia asked me

[21:03] <BobWestbrook> This to me evokes pictures of the mass aliyah by airlift from Ethopia

[21:03] <MarvBMar> aliyah going up too Jeruselem?

[21:03] <Caelae> Acts 9

[21:03] MarvBMar [~MarvBMar@jproxy15.talkcity.com] has quit IRC (MarvBMar has left the room)

[21:03] <GranBland> 6yes Bob wasn't that aairline called Eagle

[21:03] <GranBland> 6something

[21:03] <GranBland> 6that brought them over to Israel

[21:03] <BobWestbrook> His name was not really "changed" - Saul was his Hebrew name, Paul his Greek name

[21:04] <tryChrist> Wings of eagles, Gran

[21:04] <BobWestbrook> thanks, Miller :)

[21:04] <GranBland> 6oh OK good Miller thanks

[21:04] <GranBland> 6sure did remeind me of this scriptutre when I read aabout that migration

[21:04] <BobWestbrook> "From the ends of the earth" reminds us that this process is still ongoing and far from complete!

[21:04] <GranBland> 6but still some were made to stay behind

[21:04] <Caelae> a real airline called Eagle?

[21:04] <GranBland> 6by that government there

[21:05] <GranBland> 6yes I pray always for the ministires that bring them from Russia

[21:05] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:9 NIV) They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel's father, and Ephraim is my firstborn son.

[21:05] <GranBland> 6still so many left there

[21:05] MarvBMar [~MarvBMar@jproxy12.talkcity.com] has joined #IsraelMyBeloved

[21:05] <GranBland> 6oh my how great

[21:06] <BobWestbrook> wonderful!

[21:06] <GranBland> 6what was that Bob

[21:06] <BobWestbrook> I keep on repeating myself, but this verse once again shows God's ongoing care for Israel, on a very personal level

[21:07] <Sparrow26> I am sorry, but I have to go now. I will see you tomorrow night, OK? God Bless everyone.

[21:07] <tryChrist> night

[21:08] <GranBland> 6about names Bob it can be confusing when someone is called by another name

[21:08] <GranBland> 6that new ones do not know

[21:08] <BobWestbrook> The next verse is perhaps, to put it in modern terms, a cosmic press release

[21:08] <BobWestbrook> true

[21:08] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:10 NIV) "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: 'He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'

[21:08] <GranBland> 6I am not new but still get confused

[21:08] <BobWestbrook> :)

[21:08] <GranBland> 6far from new that is

[21:08] <GranBland> 6:->

[21:08] <BobWestbrook> WILL GATHER THEM - no uncertain terms here

[21:09] <GranBland> 6I love Jeremiah

[21:09] <GranBland> 6have a grandson with that name

[21:09] <BobWestbrook> Give the nations notice!! God is not about to abandom them!!

[21:09] <BobWestbrook> abandon

[21:09] <Caelae> Is this saying that their scattering was G-d's doing?

[21:09] <GranBland> 6yeah God

[21:09] <Netia19> Amen

[21:09] <BobWestbrook> Right, Caelae, it is

[21:09] <BobWestbrook> He scattered, He will gather

[21:09] <CJ-Seeker> Very good discussion tonight

[21:09] <Caelae> how do they feel about that?

[21:09] <GranBland> 6yes due to there disobedience

[21:10] <GranBland> 6their

[21:10] <BobWestbrook> He was angry, He will have compassion

[21:10] <GranBland> 6yes

[21:10] <GranBland> 6if they read the scriptures they will know why

[21:10] <BobWestbrook> the "distant coastlands" means broadcast it around the world!

[21:10] <GranBland> 6yes Miller

[21:11] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:10 NIV) "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: 'He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.'

[21:11] <GranBland> 6just can't spell well tho

[21:12] <GranBland> 6but I am old should know better

[21:12] <BobWestbrook> And if I could take a little liberty with this, to paraphrase: "Get it into your thick numbskulls, nations! God's doing this for Israel! This is no coincidence, He is coming to their defense!"

[21:14] <CJ-Seeker> Sorry Karen, did you have a question

[21:14] <BobWestbrook> "from the hand of those stronger than they" - in 1948, a makeshift Israeli army, if you could call it that, armed with little more than just rifles, turned back five modern armies with tanks and artillery

[21:15] <BobWestbrook> a modern day miracle

[21:15] <tryChrist> Shalom - Shalom we will be living in glory at His return, keep looking up :)

[21:15] <Caelae> wow I didn't know that

[21:15] <GranBland> 6yes again yea God

[21:17] <BobWestbrook> And God is still defending Israel against the Arabs who vastly outnumber them

[21:18] <GranBland> 6 71 dear

[21:18] <Caelae> wow

[21:18] <GranBland> 6yes with all that was against them they had to have have heavenly help to make it thro

[21:19] <Caelae> no doubt

[21:19] <GranBland> 6hey thats not all that old dear

[21:19] <GranBland> 6still kicking

[21:19] <BobWestbrook> :)

[21:19] <GranBland> 6and typing

[21:19] <GranBland> 6hee hee

[21:19] <Caelae> no, I just fell like a baby

[21:19] <Caelae> feel

[21:19] <Caelae> and foolish

[21:19] <GranBland> 6well my youngest is 36 and oldes is 52

[21:19] <BobWestbrook> The next few verses tell of God's blessings to Israel:

[21:20] <GranBland> 6no never foolish dear

[21:20] <Caelae> im 26

[21:20] <GranBland> 6just learning

[21:20] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:12 NIV) They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD-- the grain, the new wine and the oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more.

[21:20] <Caelae> thanks

[21:20] <GranBland> 6um haave grandchildren older than that

[21:20] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:13 NIV) Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

[21:20] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:14 NIV) I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty," declares the LORD.

[21:20] <GranBland> 6i love it when people ask questions I ask lots of questions don't I bob

[21:21] <BobWestbrook> When people read verses like these, they often ask "when do these things happen"?

[21:21] <BobWestbrook> Yeah, Gran :)

[21:21] <Caelae> My brother in law said that he grew up in wonderful conditions copared to the neighbouring nations, (ie Jordan

[21:21] <GranBland> 6yep

[21:21] <GranBland> 6where was he raised Caelae

[21:21] <Caelae> he feels almost bad by how much his family has

[21:21] <BobWestbrook> And the best answer is, it is an ongoing process - God has begun to show His blessings to regathered Israel in the land, but the full completion of these promises will occur during the Kingdom

[21:21] <Caelae> Tel Aviv

[21:22] <GranBland> 6well he cant control any of what has already happened and he should just praise God for what he had and has

[21:22] <BobWestbrook> Right, Caelae

[21:22] <GranBland> 6and ask God how he can help

[21:22] <Caelae> I wish he would, hes not a believer

[21:22] <GranBland> 6well he may just become one with feelings like that

[21:22] <GranBland> 6and unbleivers help all the time

[21:23] <Caelae> I'm praying!

[21:23] <GranBland> 6good

[21:23] <BobWestbrook> The next verse should be familiar to all of us because of Matthews interpretation of it, but interestingly enough that is not even the primary meaning of it!

[21:23] <GranBland> 6God where can we read where God says that the desert will bloom like a rose

[21:23] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:15 NIV) This is what the LORD says: "A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more."

[21:23] <BobWestbrook> (Matthew 2:16 NIV) When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

[21:23] <GranBland> 6oh yes I remember tht one for sure

[21:23] <BobWestbrook> (Matthew 2:17-18 NIV) Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: {18} "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."

[21:24] <Caelae> isn't it talking about the captivity?

[21:24] <GranBland> 6while Josph had his family on the way to Egypt

[21:24] <BobWestbrook> But the primary understanding of that verse, as it applied to the people in the time of Jeremiah, was indeed talking about exile

[21:24] <GranBland> 6God uses dreams alot

[21:25] <GranBland> 6yes

[21:25] <BobWestbrook> We know this, from what the next verse says

[21:25] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:16 NIV) This is what the LORD says: "Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded," declares the LORD. "They will return from the land of the enemy.

[21:25] <Caelae> "THey will return..."

[21:26] <BobWestbrook> This is a prime example of a "near/far" prophecy, both interpretations equally valid

[21:26] <Caelae> go on

[21:26] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:17 NIV) So there is hope for your future," declares the LORD. "Your children will return to their own land.

[21:26] <GranBland> 6well dear ones I need to leave you have to get up early tomorrow so need to get up and get to bed soon God bless y ou all and see ya tomorrow

[21:27] <BobWestbrook> "hope for your future" - how many people today need to hear and believe that!

[21:27] <GranBland> 6God was the original promise keeper

[21:27] <BobWestbrook> Night, Gran! God bless you!!!!

[21:27] <GranBland> 6all of us

[21:27] <GranBland> 6love to all and byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for now

[21:27] <Caelae> bye!

[21:27] <BobWestbrook> "hope for your future" - today, when often things seem bleak and desperate in Israel, what they need is the reassurance from the lord that there is "hope for their future"

[21:27] <GranBland> 6oh Caelae come to crossing jordan tomorrw night at 9 E

[21:28] GranBland [~GranBland@jproxy15.talkcity.com] has quit IRC (GranBland has left the room)

[21:29] <BobWestbrook> Caelae, on Allyn's website, they have a Friday night Bible study, I think in the book of Hebrews now

[21:29] <Caelae> Not the show "Crossing Jordan"?

[21:29] <BobWestbrook> nope :)

[21:29] <Caelae> okay I get it

[21:30] <BobWestbrook> his website is crossingjordan.net

[21:30] <Caelae> okay thanks

[21:30] <BobWestbrook> ok, who is still with us?

[21:30] <Caelae> o/

[21:31] <BobWestbrook> the other two must be drowsing :)

[21:31] <Caelae> I was a way a minute ago putting kids to bed

[21:31] <BobWestbrook> How old are they?

[21:31] <Caelae> they might be also

[21:32] <Caelae> 3, 22 months, and 6 months

[21:32] <BobWestbrook> wow! that's great!! :)

[21:32] <BobWestbrook> And you must be a superwoman :)

[21:32] <BobWestbrook> My kids are 22 and 20, in college

[21:33] <Caelae> oops one is crying, be back

[21:33] <BobWestbrook> ok

[21:34] <Caelae> i'm back

[21:35] <BobWestbrook> ok :)

[21:35] <BobWestbrook> I guess we'll take on the rest of the chapter next week, still a whole lot to cover yet!

[21:36] <BobWestbrook> It's packed full of good stuff! :)

[21:36] <Caelae> The next few verses seem to be about admitting to sin

[21:36] <BobWestbrook> yes, they are, and those verses have had a lot of personal signficance to me

[21:37] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:18-19 NIV) "I have surely heard Ephraim's moaning: 'You disciplined me like an unruly calf, and I have been disciplined. Restore me, and I will return, because you are the LORD my God. {19} After I strayed, I repented; after I came to understand, I beat my breast. I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth.'

[21:37] <BobWestbrook> God's discipline can be very difficult to bear, but it is for our own good

[21:37] <Caelae> after I came to understand.... thats an interesting phrase

[21:38] <BobWestbrook> And though we see our own shame and disgrace, He is compassionate

[21:38] <BobWestbrook> That's a very good observation, I had not seen that!

[21:38] <BobWestbrook> Israel will "come to understand" all they do not now understand

[21:38] <BobWestbrook> about their Messiah

[21:39] <BobWestbrook> And will experience the emotions described there

[21:39] <Caelae> I feel like my new Israeli brother does not "understand..."

[21:39] <Caelae> praise the lord

[21:39] <BobWestbrook> no, but remember, it is God who gives understanding - we communicate the message of Good News, and He enlightens peoples' hearts to understand

[21:40] <Caelae> yes

[21:40] <BobWestbrook> Makes it easier, because we do not have to "convince" people

[21:41] <BobWestbrook> We just sit back and watch God work as we share the message :)

[21:41] <Caelae> right now he said that most Israelis think that the Arabs dislike them because they live in such horrible conditions, he does not see the spiritual significance

[21:41] <Netia19> YEA BACK

[21:41] <Caelae> I am unsure what to say when it seems so clear to me

[21:41] <Caelae> welcome

[21:42] <BobWestbrook> No, but fortunately you are there as a friend to help him see! :)

[21:42] <BobWestbrook> Welcome back!

[21:42] <BobWestbrook> Just say what you see :)

[21:42] <Netia19> I WAS unablento type

[21:42] Netia19 [~Netia19@jproxy12.talkcity.com] has quit IRC (Netia19 has left the room)

[21:43] <Caelae> oh, computer prob?

[21:43] <BobWestbrook> The next verse has been a great comfort to me at times

[21:43] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:20 NIV) Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I have great compassion for him," declares the LORD.

[21:44] <Caelae> thats beautiful

[21:44] <BobWestbrook> I have personalized this, because though I have experienced the shame described in the previous verse, and though God has often "spoken against me" in displeasure of my disobedience, still He delights in me as a son

[21:45] <BobWestbrook> and this is His disposition to Israel

[21:45] <BobWestbrook> it is, very beautiful, and poignant, and moving!

[21:45] <BobWestbrook> People often think of God as an intert force or something, but He is a living being, with real emotions

[21:46] <Caelae> its hard for G-d to see them hurting

[21:46] <BobWestbrook> yes

[21:46] <Caelae> and us

[21:46] <BobWestbrook> uh huh :)

[21:47] <Caelae> What about the next verse, set up road signs?

[21:47] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 31:21 NIV) "Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Take note of the highway, the road that you take. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to your towns.

[21:48] <BobWestbrook> This is speaking of spiritual return - come back according to the you left, Israel. But....

[21:48] <BobWestbrook> the "set up", "put up" instructions may be speaking to us Christians, as we facilitate the way back for them

[21:49] <BobWestbrook> And all over the place, I see this happening

[21:49] <Caelae> my Bible has a reference to Jer 50:5, saying they will ask the way

[21:49] <Caelae> so they will ask us?

[21:50] <BobWestbrook> Christians, befriending Israel, and setting up signs pointing the way back

[21:50] <BobWestbrook> That's a good reference....

[21:50] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 50:4-5 NIV) "In those days, at that time," declares the LORD, "the people of Israel and the people of Judah together will go in tears to seek the LORD their God. {5} They will ask the way to Zion and turn their faces toward it. They will come and bind themselves to the LORD in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.

[21:51] <Caelae> yes it must be spiritual, the physical way is obvious

[21:51] <BobWestbrook> "the way to Zion" - what is the way? Who will they ask?

[21:51] <BobWestbrook> Yes, exactly!

[21:51] <BobWestbrook> in tears!

[21:51] <BobWestbrook> This is wonderful - thanks for pointing that out!

[21:51] <Caelae> so mearly living in the land is not enough

[21:52] <BobWestbrook> no, it's not, the regathering is both physical and spiritual, according to Ezekiel 37 and others

[21:53] <Caelae> so in the next verse, the wandering, thats Israel right now, spiritually wandering?

[21:53] <Caelae> ever looking for the way?

[21:53] <BobWestbrook> (Jeremiah 50:6 NIV) "My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.

[21:53] <BobWestbrook> Yes, that's right

[21:53] <Caelae> but can't quite find it

[21:54] <Caelae> Gilad seemed that way to me, restless, and peaceful at the same time,

[21:54] <BobWestbrook> God has given you excellent insight, Caelae! Keep on using this gift you have! :)

[21:54] <Caelae> trying out eastern mysticism, looking for spirituality

[21:55] <BobWestbrook> Yes, that's right :)

[21:55] <Caelae> but worried about things at home

[21:55] <BobWestbrook> the resting place

[21:55] <Caelae> and frustrated with Judiaism

[21:56] <Caelae> an understandable frustration!

[21:56] <BobWestbrook> (Isaiah 28:11-12 NIV) Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people, {12} to whom he said, "This is the resting place, let the weary rest"; and, "This is the place of repose"-- but they would not listen.

[21:56] <Caelae> wow thats a great verse!

[21:56] <BobWestbrook> The place of rest for the weary is in the Messiah Jesus

[21:56] <BobWestbrook> (Matthew 11:28-29 NIV) "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. {29} Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

[21:58] <BobWestbrook> Rest for your souls - the solution to the common human malady, and it is only found in Jesus Himself

[21:58] <BobWestbrook> Well, Caelae, I better wrap it up for tonight!

[21:58] <Caelae> whats this next part about, "a woman shall surround a man"?

[21:59] <Caelae> okay

[21:59] <BobWestbrook> That's a good question, and perhaps....

[21:59] <Caelae> next time

[21:59] <BobWestbrook> those reading the log can look into the verse for next time, because to be honest I don't really have an answer as to what it means :)

[21:59] <Caelae> okay we'll all read up on it maybe

[21:59] <BobWestbrook> Thanks for your participation, and for being a blessing to me and to all who will read the log, Caelae!

[22:00] <Caelae> thank you

[22:00] <BobWestbrook> Good night, we'll see you next time! God bless!

[22:00] <Caelae> My name is Rachel

[22:00] <Caelae> Good night

[22:00] <BobWestbrook> Night, Rachel! :0

[22:00] <BobWestbrook> :)
